What to Do When You Don’t Know Where to Start

what to do when you don't know where to start,
Simply starting out is one of the most crucial steps for getting out of paralysis by analysis

Whether you have all your ducks in a row, or are still trying to figure out what to do when you don’t know where to start is a very real phenomenon; especially if you still don’t have a clue about what you want to do. Be it getting yourself out of a financial rut, or looking for your next career — there are certainly no shortage of options and decisions to be made.

Paralysis by analysis is a surefire way to keep yourself from ever reaching your goals. This involves doing absolutely nothing that’ll move you closer to achieving your desired outcome(s). Let’s be honest: We live in a world that has no shortage of information, let alone self-help reading material. However, there’s only one individual that’s responsible for sorting out all of life’s unnecessary filler — you! Furthermore, what’s considered filler to someone else may be considered gold to you.

Theoretically, if there were 1,000 things for you to do, pick just one. You should make a strong attempt at doing of the more important tasks aka one that could move you closer to your goal(s). Although one completed task — out of 1,000 — may not seem like an accomplishment, it is way more productive than doing zero. Plus, you now are one step closer in the right direction. Essentially, you’ve moved past the oh-so-dreaded “Don’t Know Where to Start” zone.

As your journey progresses, you’ll make some discoveries along the way; some steps won’t work while others will. Trial and error is inevitable, but guess what? So is your eventual success. Hence, you should start anywhere. You can always correct the course along this continuous adventure called life.
